Noche de San Juan – Saint John’s Eve

The dances around the bonfire were used to make the day longer, because as from then the days will start to be shorter.
Today there are still a lot of rituals being preserved. For example going into water at midnight will help get rid of bad energies and jumping the embers will bring good luck. If you secretly love someone, you should write that person’s name on a card and throw it into to the fire.

Nowadays people still meet at the beach and maintain the rituals however it’s more common to participate concerts that are being organised that day like for example in Málaga on Malagueta beach.
